CRESSONA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fatal crash in Schuylkill County leaves a family without a mom.
Sunday, a community came together to give this difficult Mother’s Day a silver lining. Sirens and celebration filled a neighborhood in Cressona. Young James Whalen turned seven, but it was a difficult day for him and the community.
“As a mother of six kids, I couldn’t even imagine having two young children going through this,” Nichole Mumbauer of Goodwill Hose Company, Cressona Fire Department said.

KLINE TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A house fire in Schuylkill County is under investigation.
Fire crews were called to a fire on James Street in Kline Township just before 6 p.m. PPL cut the power to the home.
The people who live in the home cannot return. No one was hurt in the fire.
A state police fire marshal has been called to investigate.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The remaining 30 Pennsylvania counties which remain in the red phase under Governor Wolf‘s order are getting more than restless. Some have decided to self transition to the yellow phase including, now, Schuylkill County.
Restaurants like a McDonald’s in Hometown are among the life-sustaining businesses which have been allowed to be open throughout this pandemic. But now lawmakers and leaders in Schuylkill County have informed Harrisburg it’s time to start getting this county back on the economic track.

LLEWELLYN, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) – The coronavirus pandemic is not preventing a popular fire department fundraiser from happening.
Good Intent Hose Co. No. 1 hosted its Silverton Food Truck Festival on fire company grounds.
Nine food trucks were participating but because of pandemic restrictions,merchandise vendors were not.
The event was being held as a drive-thru with customers remaining in their cars as their orders were taken and then hand-delivered.

POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several lawmakers who are frustrated that Schuylkill County is stuck in the Wolf administration’s red phase have formally requested to move the county into the yellow phase.
Five lawmakers co-signed a letter to Governor Wolf asking for the designation which would ease certain business and social restrictions in the county.
