PD: 14-year-old girl shot in Wilkes-Barre, several juveniles involved

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre police confirm a 14-year-old girl was shot early Monday morning in the basement of a home on Maffett Street.

Police say several juveniles gained access to a gun and at some point, the gun was discharged, injuring a teenage girl.

The 14-year-old was transported to a hospital and is now at Geisinger Danville undergoing treatment.

28/22 News spoke with a neighbor who has several children and if she feels concerned about being so close to an incident such as this.

"Definitely. Now I'm wondering are my kids going to be safe you know? I know it happens a lot all over the country but for it to be right next door at 3 in the morning when we're sleeping that's kind of dangerous," stated Carla McHayle
