PennDOT keeps busy clearing roads in Luzerne County

FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Snow has led to closures, delays, and travel trouble in Luzerne County on Tuesday.

The morning commute was a bit tricky, with snow-covered roadways and low visibility. In White Haven, a tractor-trailer crash shut down a portion of Interstate 80 East in Luzerne and Carbon counties.

First responders were called to that scene just before 6:00 a.m. The interstate should be open by 11:00 a.m. according to PennDOT.

Plows were out all morning, and once the flurries died down, cleaning up the roads got a bit easier. The people 28/22 News talked to today had mixed reviews on the road conditions.

28/22 News spoke with one woman on her way into work who's staying here on the mountain, and another man who made his way up here from Wilkes-Barre for work this morning.

"They're driveable if you're not afraid of the snow, but they're pretty rough," said Tracy Stelma, from Mountain Top.

"They could be a little better. They could be a little better. A little more salt, little more trucks on the road. But you know I got a four-wheel drive so I'm making do with it," added Robert Bovell, from Wilkes-Barre.

The storm dropped about eight inches of snow on the ground, but all of the plows that have been going through the area have cleared the roads in Fairview Township.
