Fire destroys 'barndominium' in Lycoming County

PORTER TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A fire ripped through a "barndominium" in Lycoming County Sunday morning.

Chief Ethan Goodbrod with the Citizens Hose Company of Jersey Shore says first responders were called to a fire with possible entrapment at a barndominium (typically a barn that was converted into an all-purpose living and/or workspace) in the 200 block of River Road, Porter Township, at 7:08 a.m. Sunday.

Chief Goodbrod said there was heavy fire when their group arrived so they split into two teams. One team searched for the person who may have been in the building while the second fought the fire.

During their search, firefighters say they learned no one was in the building and the groups reconvened. Officials then called for additional units, raising the response to a second-alarm.

With the additional manpower, firefighters got the fire under control around 8:30 a.m. according to Chief Goodbrod.

No one was reported injured in the fire.

The building is considered a total loss.

Chief Goodbrod added that firefighters brought in a front-end loader to help clear the debris from the collapsed roof.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. A state police fire marshal is investigating what led to the fire in Porter Township.
