A Little Love: Meet Luna

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — From a love of gardening to taking care of others, Luna is one of the sweetest souls.

They just want a support system to help them from time to time and share life moments as they grow into their independence and adulthood.

In this month's A Little Love, I'd like you to meet Luna.

When it comes to creating succulents and planting plants, Luna digs right in with Jacklyn from the creative touch.

"This one is Colt. Captain Colt. That's a boy, I know he looks very pretty, but that's a boy plant," Luna said.

From plants to people, the 20-year-old loves taking care of living things, including the elderly as they work as a home health aide.

"I really love taking care of people. It makes me feel whole," Luna continued.

This kind and empathetic person has a bright future, but they are just missing one thing, a solid safety net to capture their life experiences.

"Everyone I know has a family. Even if they are adults and going on about their lives and daily life and creating their own family. But they still have a family. I've always wanted that. And to have a bad day and be like, 'Man. I can't wait to tell my mom about this.' That's what I want," Luna explained.

"A good support system?" 28/22 News Reporter Candice Kelly asked.

"Of if my car breaks down in the middle of the road. And I'm like, I know who would help me with that, Dad. Dad would help me. I've never had that and it's something I've always wanted," Luna said.

State-Wide Adoption Network (SWAN) Permanency Specialist Samantha Frederick says Luna may be an adult, but that doesn't mean this smart and caring person doesn't need nurturing of their own.

They want to mark milestones and memorable moments with someone dependable.

"Somebody they know is going to be there for them. They don't have to question are they going to be there. They know that for 100 percent going to be there. People don't always realize how important that can be to shape them into who they are 20 years from now," Frederick said.

A bonus with Luna, is they love to make people feel good and enjoy a good laugh or two.

"I may not walk into a room and may not even be the prettiest person in the room, but I will try my dang hardest to be the funniest," Luna said.

"Cracking dad jokes all the time. Constantly making me laugh and smile. Half the time I leave my visits with them my cheeks hurt because I was smiling and laughing so much," Frederick added.

All kidding aside, Luna is a dynamic person who just needs some occasional TLC, just like their pretty little plants.
