Two accused in homicide investigation previously faced charges

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is taking a closer look at the five people accused of the kidnapping, torture, and brutal murder of a Michigan woman in a Wilkes-Barre home.

We've learned two of them previously faced charges from an incident at the same home. Here's what we found out about the separate incident that happened last summer.

Five people have been charged with the homicide of 38-year-old Nicole Cuevas of Saginaw, Michigan. They all face criminal homicide and related charges following the discovery of her remains at 142 Carlisle Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Gruesome details highlighted in Carlisle Street homicide investigation

According to court records obtained by 28/22 News, 43-year-old Jason Race, and 39-year-old Faith Beamer, both of Wilkes-Barre were charged with obstruction of justice last summer.

Police say on July 27, 2023, the two refused to let officers into the home to check on an 8-year-old girl.

Police went to the home after a bloodied man turned up, claiming he had been locked in the same basement and beaten up repeatedly after they accused him of sexually assaulting the girl.

After Cuevas' body was found, prosecutors dropped the police obstruction charges against Race and Beamer.

We have reached out to the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office to find out why the charges against Beamer and Race were dropped but we have yet to hear back.

All of the five suspects are behind bars at various correctional facilities in the area.
