EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Four people have been charged with trafficking large amounts of various drugs across Luzerne County.
According to US Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the following four men were charged with drug trafficking offenses;
Jamie Smicherko, 27, of Avoca
Patrick Russin, 54, of Shavertown
Ryan Medar, 36, of Jenkin Township
Carlos Laurel, 45, of White Haven
Two alleged gang members charged in Scranton drug bust
Investigators say between October 2023, and April 2024, Smicherko, Russin, and Medar planned to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine within Luzerne County and the four conspired to sell cocaine.
Officials also noted that Medar and Smicherko both trafficked firearms and possessed firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, and conspired to do the same.
The maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses is imprisonment for life, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
