(WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been charged with homicide for his alleged involvement in an 18-month cold case where a teen's body was found in garbage bags along Interstate 80 in central Pennsylvania.
State police say they have charged 52-year-old Davere Andre McClain, of Williamsport, with the killing and dismembering of 19-year-old Kevin Cagle after his body was discovered in garbage bags along Interstate 80.
In October 2023, a body was found in Liberty Township, later identified as Cagle from the Williamsport Area.
Investigators believe Cagle was shot and stabbed to death in a home in Williamsport, put into garbage bags, and thrown from an I-80 overpass in Montour County.
Police began to search several surveillance videos and found one where the victim was last seen walking on Park and Stark Lane in Williamsport. Residents within that area told police they heard a least three gunshots on October 11 coming from a residence in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue.
Man charged with rape of 8-year-old
On April 4, 2025, a man who lived at the residence on Fifth Avenue at the time of Cagle's death was interviewed and told investigators that there was "tension between Cagle and McClain" during a visit to the home, police stated.
As stated in the affidavit, the man claimed McClain told him that Cagle "wasn't leaving the residence" on the night of October 11. The man then said he witnessed McClain shoot Cagle in a bathtub and stab him in the neck, according to court documents.
Police said after Cagle died, the man helped McClain move the victim's body to the basement, and McClain stated he "intended to disrobe and dismember the victim." The next morning, McClain asked the man to help him remove Cagle's body, place it in the trunk of a car, and dump his body on the I-80 overpass, the complaint alleges.
McClain is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, abuse of corpse, tampering with evidence, unlawful restraint, and other related offenses.
