PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman has been charged in the drug overdose death of a Luzerne County woman that occurred in 2023.
42-year-old Martina Wheeler was found dead of an overdose in bed by police officers on September 6, 2023.
In their investigation, police found that Wheeler had messaged with a friend, 41-year-old Cassie Zambetti, on Facebook in the days leading up to her death. Messages obtained by police show the two discussing an exchange of money and coordinating a meeting on September 5.

According to the police report, security footage obtained from a nearby house showed a car consistent with Zambetti's vehicle pulling onto the street and stopping outside Wheeler's residence on September 5, before departing a few minutes later.
In an interview with police, Zambetti admitted to supplying Wheeler with Suboxone and Klonopin in the days preceding her death, receiving about $15 in exchange. However, she told police she did not believe the drugs contained any fentanyl.
Zambetti now faces charges of drug delivery resulting in death and involuntary manslaughter for Wheeler's death.
