3rd Annual Wyoming Valley Run rasing money for local charities

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several street closures and traffic restrictions were in place throughout Luzerne County earlier on Sunday, but it was all for a good cause. Nearly 1,000 runners, walkers, and handcyclists participated in the Third Annual Wyoming Valley Run to raise money for five local charities.

Several familiar faces from the 28/22 News family took part as Meteorologist Logan Westrope, Reporter Sydney Kostus, and Sports Anchor Nick Zelaya ran the 10-mile road race from Pittston to Wilkes-Barre.

The course is known as being flat and inclusive for all abilities.

"It's the challenges like that when you're in situations that you wouldn't normally find yourself in, that you have to dig deep, that inspires me, me to keep going," Mountain Top resident Gaylen Gardner told 28/22 News.

"Running is such a significant sport here in Northeastern Pennsylvania; it has been for decades, so it's great to see annual runs like this pop up," Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo explained.

The Wyoming Valley Run is put on by Allied Services in partnership with All One Charities.

Since 2023, the event has raised $20,000 for area non-profits.
