Learning about National Overdose Awareness Day in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Sunday was National Overdose Awareness Day, and events were held all over northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond, including in Wilkes-Barre.

Vendors at the Hope Over Stigma Outreach Experience in Kirby Park provided information about local recovery resources, related activities, and giveaways.

People came to celebrate recovery, eliminate stigma, and honor loved ones, planting flags in their memory.

Hitting the green to raise money in Lackawanna County

"My hope is that through events like this there won't have to be another life lost, or another family member in pain because they lost a loved one," Wyoming Valley Behavioral Health Business Development Representative Kate Favata told 28/22 News.

The event wrapped up at 3:00 p.m.

Experts say substance abuse often spikes in early Autumn, which can be a make-or-break time before habits escalate during the holidays.
