Competitors chow down on ribs for Labor Day charity event

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Competitors chowed down for a cause on Labor Day in Lackawanna County. Texas Roadhouse in Dickson City hosted a charity rib-eating challenge.

The participating teams, made up of veterans, firefighters, police officers, and EMS workers, to see who could tear through the most ribs.

The winner raised money for the charity of their choice.

Low-cost haircuts given away for back-to-school event

Jeff Hughes, from the Dickson City Police Department, took first place in the contest.

"This is great to bring the community together. All the other heroes throughout the county, coming here and trying to put on a show, I guess," Hughes explained.

The money will be sent to Helping Heroes NEPA, an organization supporting veterans, first responders, and their families.
