Man arrested for allegedly acting as Homeland Security

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Columbia County man was arrested after two incidents where he was allegedly impersonating a public servant, according to the Wilkes-Barre Police City Police Department.

The release states that police conducted a traffic stop on 45-year-old Shawn Smith of Bloomsburg.

Authorities say that Smith was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus with emergency lighting and "Police Interceptor" labeling.

Officers say that Smith identified himself as a private security contractor associated with the office of Homeland Security, but it was determined that was not the truth.

He was subsequently cited by the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department.

Smith then entered a Magisterial District Court and requested a continuance while wearing a badge and stated that he was a representative of the office of Homeland Security, according to the release.

Authorities say Smith had no authority or authorization to do so

Smith was charged with Impersonating a Public Servant.
