Wilkes-Barre Mayor honors Korean War veteran

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local veteran was presented a proclamation and key to Wilkes-Barre Tuesday afternoon. Korean War Veteran Donald Williams retired as a Sergeant First Class.

Williams received medals for his heroism during the war.

Williams was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, and it's where he and his wife settled down to raise a family. His family was there at City Hall when the mayor presented him with the honor.

"Thank you very much. I appreciate it more than I ever expected. I thought I was done a long time ago as far as this kind of stuff," Williams said.

"This is a man that is a genuine hero. And he is a hero from the city of wilkes-barre. Silver star recipient, and also the fact that he saved lives. So this is someone we had to recognize," Mayor George Brown stated.

The event took place in the mayor's office on Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
