PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County school district's superintendent is facing charges after an alleged incident over the weekend.
Kevin Booth, 54, of Pittston, has been charged with simple assault and harassment after police say he was involved in a physical altercation with a woman. Police say the woman told them that Booth had "kinda tossed me around a bit" and "choked" her.

Police say they responded to Union Street in Pittston around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night for a report a man and a woman involved in a dispute that was both verbal and physical.
Booth is the superintendent of the Pittston Area School District.
28/22 News reached out to the school district for comment. Pittston Area Assistant Superintendent John A. Haas, Ed.D. responded.
"The Pittston Area School District is aware of today’s media reports involving charges filed against an employee of the district. We recognize that this matter has generated public attention and raised questions within our community.
We want to assure our families, staff, and stakeholders that the District remains focused on its mission to provide a safe, supportive, inclusive, and high-quality educational environment for all students.
In accordance with longstanding District policy and consistent with Pennsylvania Law, the District cannot comment publicly on the handling of personnel matters. This policy is in place to ensure due process, protect the privacy rights of all employees, and to ensure that any internal processes, as well as resulting criminal processes where applicable, are conducted thoroughly and without prejudice," Haas relayed in his statement.
