WATCH: Crews attempt to wrangle runaway cow on interstate

WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Check out this drone video of a cow running loose along Interstate 84 Monday night!

Officials from the Lackawanna County Communications Center told 28/22 News crews were called at about 8:15 p.m. for a report of a cow on the loose.

Authorities explained that it happened in the area of Sepko Road and Interstate 84 near Madison Township.

Lackawanna County community helps kids get ready to return to class

Station 56 Madisonville led the response to the incident and is working to corral the loose bovine, according to officials.

Back 2 School Bash kicks off in Luzerne County

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County families getting ready for the school year got more than just supplies at one community event.

More than 100 people turned out for the free back-to-school bash at the Toyota Sportsplex in Wilkes-Barre.

Local organizations handed out backpacks, served hot meals, and gave safety tips.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Kids are getting ready to return to the classroom, and a Lackawanna County community is looking to make that easier.

McNichols Plaza Elementary in Scranton held its back-to-school fair for the eighth year this morning.

The event included 25 vendors, including businesses, universities, banks, and non-profit organizations.

Students from kindergarten to fifth grade were able to take advantage of the resources available.

Firefighters recovering, several displaced after Scranton fire

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several people are now displaced, and three firefighters are recovering after a fire in Scranton on Sunday night.

There are a few updates to share on Monday on the condition of the firefighters involved in last night's blaze. So far, there is nothing yet on the cause.

"It was just crazy so close to home because I live right here. So, it was right across the street from me," one resident said.

A fire ripped through a few homes and a business on Scranton's south side Sunday night.

12-year-old helping kids in her community

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — With a new school year upon us, many children are squarely focused on what's ahead for them, but that's not the case for a Monroe County girl who is concerned for other kids.

12-year-old Adelyn Hessek is packing something called a "Birthday Bag." It is one of the things kids in need receive for free at a place called Angels and Dragonflies in East Stroudsburg.

Adelyn routinely lends a helping hand at the non-profit that her grandmother runs.
