Borough sees tax increase first time in over 10 years

HARVEYS LAKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Lawmakers in Harveys Lake are hoping to avoid a huge tax increase this year after taxpayers cried foul.

It has been 11 years since the Luzerne County borough saw a property tax increase, and the original proposal was to raise taxes 100 percent.

But following public comment Thursday night, council voted to move to plan "B", a 30 percent increase for 2025.

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A wildlife shelter in NEPA has been assisting in stopping the spread, but the Pennsylvania Game Commission has stepped in to regulate their efforts or they'll fine them.

The Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center received a letter from the Pennsylvania Game Commission claiming the facility has been committing a violation.

Workers at the center say they are just trying to do their jobs.

(WBRE/WYOU)— An EBT scam has affected thousands of people in our area and one nonprofit asking for support in anyway possible.

An EBT skimming scam has drained money out of accounts of thousands of people affecting food pantries in more ways than one.

Friends of the Poor are asking for food donations at their warehouse on 240 East Elm Street in Scranton to help keep them stocked.
