Harris campaign visits Lackawanna County day before election

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Election Day is on Tuesday and both candidates are making a final push to voters in battleground states.

On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris visited our area.

28/22 News Reporter Julie Dunphy was there when Harris spoke to hundreds in the Electric City earlier Monday evening.

10 year old makes name for herself in NEPA

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 10-year-old girl from Luzerne County is making a name for herself, not just here in our community but across the nation.

In this week's Here's to You Kid, 28/22 News Reporter Jagne introduces us to the little tennis star.

10-year-old Mya Anyan practicing with her dad who is a big part of why she plays.

"I started playing tennis when I was five on the court and holding a racket when I was three my dad also played tennis too and his dad trained him so that's also why I'm playing tennis too," Mya said.

US regulator rejects bid to boost nuclear power to Amazon data center

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rejected an effort Friday to allow an Amazon data center to tap into additional power from a nearby Pennsylvania nuclear plant.

The decision could throw a wrench in efforts by large technology companies to secure so-called “behind the meter” power from nuclear plants as they seek to meet the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence (AI). 

Security measures in place at Luzerne County polling places

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We are about 15 hours and counting away until polls open in Pennsylvania. Election officials from around the Commonwealth and in northeastern Pennsylvania are making their final preparations for Election Day 2024.

The Bureau of Elections is located on the second floor of the Luzerne County-owned Penn Place Building.

The barricades outside the office are part of added security for the building.
