House destroyed after crews battle fire in Monroe Co.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A house in Monroe County was destroyed after a fire Friday morning.

According to David Pall, Assistant Fire Chief of the Sweet Valley Fire Company, a call for a residential structure fire in Ross Township was received around 6:45 a.m. He said the house was fully involved as crews arrived.

Officials say no one lived in the house, as it was under renovation. No injuries were reported.

Crews called the house a total loss.

Alligator taken into custody after escape

ARCHBALD, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An alligator has been "taken into custody" after police say it escaped from a man's pen.

The Archbald Police Department tells 28/22 News that they received a call around 7:30 a.m. Friday about an alligator escaping from its owner's pen.

Police say they were able to capture the alligator and place it in custody.

The reptile was safely returned to the owner.

Man pleads guilty to stealing $350K from deceased mom

MILAN, BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Bradford County man who allegedly withdrew money from his deceased mother's bank account pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud.

76-year-old Richard Burke of Milan withdrew $350,643.23 of his deceased mother's Social Security, Retirement, Survivors, and Disability (RSDI) benefits and Veterans Affairs death pension benefit payments from her bank account, according to a release from the Department of Justice.
