Wilkes-Barre man sentenced after selling fentanyl in NEPA

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A Wilkes-Barre man has been sentenced after selling fentanyl throughout NEPA and other states.

According to The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, 40-year-old Kevin Jones, aka "Hat," formerly of Wilkes-Barre was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated Jones was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl in June 2024.

Man allegedly creates fraudulent moving company

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Bloomsburg man is in custody after creating a fraudulent moving business and scamming an individual out of $4,800.

Police say 31-year-old Jess Harker was taken into custody Monday for an arrest warrant in Columbia County.

Court documents state Harker and another man portrayed themselves as a moving company called ABC Moving Services and indicated they would move the furniture for the victim's business.

Search for missing 16-year-old in Schuylkill County

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police are searching for a 16-year-old who was reported missing in Schuylkill County.

According to Schuylkill Haven state police, Abdul Stanton, 16, has been reported missing after he was last seen leaving Blue Mountain High School on October 23 around 3:00 p.m.

Police say Stanton was possibly heading to Orwigsburg Halloween parade that evening and he also frequents the Cressona Borough area.

Two allegedly steal cooking oil from Tom's Kitchen

CONYNGHAM BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two men were arrested after police said they were caught stealing cooking oil from Tom's Kitchen in Luzerne County.

According to the Conyngham Borough Police Department, on October 23, around 6:00 a.m., officers were called to investigate a cooking oil theft at Tom's Kitchen on State Route 93.

Police say the owner of the restaurant drove into the parking lot and saw a white van near the waste oil holding tank.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews responded to a garbage truck on fire on Interstate 380 in Lackawanna County.

Thursday morning a garbage truck caught fire on I-380 near Dunmore and traffic was disrupted as crews are worked to put the flames out.

One lane on the northbound side was shut down and expected to reopen around noon, according to PennDOT.

At this time there is no word if anyone was injured or what caused the fire.
