Dozens of fire trucks, tankers, and emergency vehicles fill the area of South Market Street in Mount Carmel as crews work to extinguish that fire for more than seven hours.

Firefighters were attacking the fire from high above on ladders throughout the firefight. The Mount Carmel Fire Chief told 28/22 News the top of the fire is the only way they've been able to extinguish the flames due to the size of the fire.

The call for the blaze came in around 3:30 am, the chief says when they arrived it was fully involved.

Around two dozen fire agencies were called in throughout the morning. Six homes along South Market Street near the fire were evacuated by police.

The fire chief said 16 tankers were called in to bring water as extra water pressure support was needed in this part of town.

The fire chief added that one firefighter sustained minor injuries by getting hit with a hose, but he has since recovered and continued to battle the fire.

A fire marshal is at the scene to investigate the cause.
