Dry weather could lead to sweeter apple products

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Summer is coming to an end, but for many people, that means enjoying some fall favorites. One of those favorites is heading to the area apple orchards.

We're told that this year's variety of apples will be sweeter than in years past. 28/22 News Reporter Connor Coar explains how the weather affects the apple season.

We all know how much rain we got in the spring over the last couple of months. It has been much drier, allowing the apples in northeastern PA to dry out.

Ever seen a concrete Bigfoot? Check out this business

SALEM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania's roads have plenty of attractions. One of them happens to be just outside of Berwick, and it caught the eye of 28/22 News Reporter Joe Mason, who tells us more about Kathy's Concrete Ornaments.

If you've ever passed through Berwick, there's a good chance you've driven by and taken a passing glance at towering statues.

Presidents, puppets, dogs, deer, bears, and Bigfoot, lots and lots of Bigfoot, but they're not just here for show.

PSU Hazleton avoids closure, future plans now uncertain

SUGARLOAF TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PSU Hazleton survived the chopping block, but what now? What's next for that campus? That was the question at the center of a community meeting on Tuesday at Penn State Hazleton.

The campus was one of 12 across the state that were being considered for closure because of enrollment and financial challenges.

28/22 News I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick was at that meeting.

(WBRE/WYOU) — If you're feeling the pinch every time you go grocery shopping or pay bills, you're not alone. We don’t need to tell you that staples like beef, chicken, eggs, and milk cost significantly more than they did just a few years ago.

A recent Pew Research study confirms this isn’t just your imagination. While government reports show inflation has slowed, prices haven’t truly dropped — so even a small increase hits hard, affecting your wallet and overall financial health.

Stroud Mansion's 'Heritage Center' to open in 2026

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Stroudsburg’s past is getting a fresh polish as a new heritage center in the Poconos is in its final stages.

The Stroud Mansion on Main and North Ninth Street is a time capsule to Stroudsburg’s roots.

Originally home of founder, Jacob Stroud, it’s a relic of the past still being used today, but now featuring some much-needed upgrades.

“The house was built in 1795; it was never intended to be a museum, a library, a community space, and offices in 2025,” says Amy Leiser, executive director, Monroe County Historical Association
