New gateway sign designs unveiled in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials in Scranton unveiled their new designs for gateway signs throughout the Electric City Monday afternoon.

The new branding is full of symbolism of our area's past and future, depicting the valley while still connecting our ties to railways, technology, and music production.

The signage will be lit, representing the Electric City, in black and white, a nod to The Office logo.

Home declared total loss after Briar Creek Township fire

BRIAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A house had been declared a total loss after a fire broke out in Briar Creek Township Monday morning.

The assistant chief of Summerhill Fire Company says crews from four local volunteer departments responded to the fire and were able to put it out in roughly 30 minutes.

Woman dies after Hazleton house fire

The family was able to make it out of the home safely.

The assistant chief says the fire is believed to have been caused by a dryer.

Mountain Top preteen finds herself in glitz, glamour

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A 10-year-old girl from Mountain Top has found herself in the glitz and glamour of the national pageant spotlight.

In this week's segment of Here's to You Kid, 28/22 News takes a look at US American Miss Pennsylvania preteen, 10-year-old Elise Farmer.

"This was my first ever pageant I've only ever done modeling competitions, and I was actually really excited because I didn't know I was gonna win," Elise said.

Victim identified after falling off roof in Hanover Twp.

HANOVER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been identified after investigators say he died falling off a roof in Hanover Township Friday.

According to the Luzerne County Coroner's Office, 41-year-old Anthony Santanna fell from the roof of a house under construction on Plymouth Avenue in Hanover Township on Friday, September 27.

Woman dies after Hazleton house fire

Santanna was pronounced dead on the scene.

The coroner's office later determined that the victim's death was due to multiple traumatic injuries.

Controversey continues with Luzerne County drop boxes

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The ballot drop box controversy continues to be talked about in Luzerne County.

On Monday, County Manager Romilda Crocamo said she stands by her decision to not deploy the boxes in November. Crocamo says it's all about the safety, security, and integrity of the election.

"I certainly appreciate receiving letters from outside attorneys. I receive them all the time. I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again. They really don't move me," said Crocamo.

Man accused of kidnapping woman, stealing car, money

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man was arrested after police say he held and threatened a woman with a gun inside her vehicle, stealing her car and money.

According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, an investigation began when a woman reported she was injured after an altercation with a man later identified as Tyree Moy, 39, of Williamsport.

Five arrested during DUI checkpoints

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Five drivers have been arrested during DUI checkpoints over a weekend in Columbia County.

Traffic enforcement including sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols were conducted as part of a statewide crackdown on impaired driving.

PSP: Teen on dirt bike punched, chased by driver during road rage

According to Pennsylvania State Police, from Friday, September 20 through Saturday, September 21 troopers conducted sobriety checkpoint/DUI rove detail.

Police said five DUI arrests were made as a result of the enforcement.
