Following up with alleged vacation fraud victim

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Imagine booking a trip to the perfect getaway, and moments before leaving, the trip gets canceled.

That's what investigators say happened to dozens of northeastern Pennsylvanians because of a travel agent who scammed them.

In a 28/22 News follow-up, Reporter Gianna Galli took a closer look at the case with a growing number of alleged victims.

One of those alleged victims, Scranton woman Nancy Scott, told Galli she was looking forward to traveling abroad last fall.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Roads, driveways, and sidewalks were clear for the most part Saturday night, but it did not happen on its own.

People armed with shovels were out first thing Saturday morning outside Lackawanna County Courthouse Square.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local woman with cancer is getting some much-needed help thanks to a running event in Scranton.

Roughly 350 runners and walkers braved the cold and snow this morning for the 14th annual Shiver by the River.

The race along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail raises funds for a different local cause each year.

This year, all proceeds go toward Lori Perry, who is battling stage four ovarian cancer.

Attendees could pick between a 5K run, 10K run, and a two-mile walk, and none of them let the cold stop them.

Rob Bresnahan takes ceremonial oath as US Congressman

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a big day for northeastern Pennsylvania's newest congressman. Long-time judge Correale Stevens administered the ceremonial oath of office on Saturday to Rob Bresnahan at the Luzerne County Courthouse.

Bresnahan defeated incumbent democrat Matt Cartwright in November to represent the Eighth district in the US House of Representatives.

The 34-year-old Dallas Township man entered the race with a business background and no political experience.

He says he is prepared to work hard for our country and his constituents.

PSP investigating fatal Avoca shooting

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning.

PSP said they were called to a residence on the 800 block of Main Street at around 4:00 a.m. to investigate a shooting.

Five people charged after 2023 homicide in Susquehanna County

Officials say the shooting resulted in the death of one person.

28/22 News was on scene as the Luzerne County Coroner, Dupont Borough Police, Avoca Police, and State Troopers were investigating the incident.
