Knoebels wins 'Best in the World' in two categories

ELYSBURG, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Knoebels Amusement Resorts has been named #1 in the world in two categories at the Golden Ticket Awards.

The Phoenix was named the #1 wooden roller coaster in the world for the sixth time.

The park also won Best Food, which Knoebels has received 21 times in 24 years.

PD: Man uses Uber to distribute various drugs

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A narcotics investigation revealed a man was using Uber to distribute drugs from his home in Dunmore.

The Dunmore Borough Police Department conducted a narcotics investigation in the area over the weekend.

Through the investigation, police said they learned Stephen Morris, 33, of Dunmore, was using Uber to pick up and drive various drugs to people.

State police involved shooting under investigation

WOLF TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials confirmed a state police-involved shooting is under investigation in Lycoming County.

The Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling confirmed with 28/22 News the office is investigating a state-police-involved shooting of 62-year-old Gary Lee McCartney.

The shooting occurred Saturday, September 7 at a mobile home on Boak Avenue in Wolf Township.

Man's identity unconfirmed after being killed by car

TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating a deadly crash where a man was hit and killed by a car.

According to the Tamaqua Police Department, on Monday, September 9 around 4:30 a.m. officers were called to East Broad Street for a crash involving a pedestrian.

Once officers arrived they found a man lying in the roadway and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver stayed on the scene and was cooperative with officers.

Strike called off at Crestwood School District

MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A tentative labor deal means a strike at a Luzerne County school has been called off.

Crestwood School District Solicitor Jack Dean says the district and union representing Crestwood Support Staff negotiated all weekend and reached a tentative contract agreement.
