Pipe-replacing project underway in Luzerne County

ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania American Water is working to replace more than five-thousand feet of pipe in Ashley.

They started last week by improving reliability for customers, reducing service disruptions, and increase water flow for firefighting.

The project involves installing new, eight-inch ductile iron pipe.

Crews will work Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at five locations.

(WBRE/WYOU)— The EBT card skimming that targeted so many people in our area is sparking a new need at local food pantries.

Several nonprofits are stepping up to help people who are looking to put food on their tables.

Friends of the Poor in Scranton and the CEO Weinberg Food Bank are open year-round to help those facing food insecurity.

Bitter cold temperatures to fall below 0° in NEPA

(WBRE/WYOU) — After Sunday's big winter storm, our area will continue to experience bone-chilling temperatures.

A few spots will drop below 0°. At times, wind chills could range between -5° and -10°.

On Tuesday, temperatures may only reach the lower and middle teens in the afternoon. It could be brisk, but not terribly windy. You can expect wind chills between -5° and 5° during the day. A flurry or snow shower is possible, although we won't see any accumulation.

D.A. believes Venezuelan gang is responsible for homicide

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso stated in a release that he believes a Venezuelan prison gang is responsible for two shootings in the last year.

The shootings have been linked to Venezuelan street gang Trena de Aragua (Train to Aragua) or TdA, according to Mancuso.

This comes after several interviews with party attendees, done by Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department, who have expressed fear of retaliation by the gang.
