PennDOT releases South Street Bridge repair plans

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT has released proposed plans to repair the South Street Bridge (State Route 2007).

The plans can be seen online and will be available from September 3, 2024 through October 1, 2024. Detailed project information and a comment form can be found by visiting SR 2007 Section PRS Bridge Repair Project

$5,000 stolen from Abercrombie & Fitch leads to arrest

TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he stole $5,000 worth of merchandise from Abercrombie & Fitch at the Pocono Outlets.

On June 15 around 6:50 p.m., officers of the Pocono Township Police Department were called to the Abercrombie & Fitch store in the Pocono Premium Outlets for a retail theft.

The theft occurred on June 9 and police say over $5,000 in merchandise was stolen.

Search for man wanted on two warrants

LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they are searching for a man wanted on warrants in two different states.

According to the Lycoming Regional Police Department, on September 4 around 5:00 a.m., officers were called regarding four people wearing all black and walking alone on Bloomingrove Road near Factory Road in Hepburn Township.

Officers searched the area but could not locate them until 9:30 a.m. a patrol car noticed four people matching the description and coming from Williamsport to Canton on foot.

This month, the Teeter family is celebrating their 175th anniversary for Teeters Furniture and Teeters' Funeral Chapel, both located in Hawley.

Over 500 arrested during DUI checkpoints

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report over 500 DUI arrests were made during the Labor Day weekend.

Pennsylvania State Police released the results of its annual Labor Day Weekend enforcement.

From August 30 to September 2, PSP investigated 580 crashes that resulted in 170 injuries and six deaths. Impaired driving was a factor in 65 of those crashes, three of which were fatal. 

Troopers arrested 514 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 24,865 citations, including:

7,069 for speeding

Inmate death reported at Schuylkill County prison

MAHANOY, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An inmate serving a life sentence for murder was found dead in a cell at a Schuylkill County prison.

Superintendent Bernadette Mason of the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy stated inmate Jason Roe, 44, was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday.

While prison and medical staff responded, life-saving measures were unsuccessful. Roe was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police will conduct an investigation and the official cause of death will be determined by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.

First Eagles game of season to air exclusively on Peacock

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The first Eagles game of the season will not air on NBC, CBS, or anywhere else on broadcast TV for that matter.

The Philadelphia Eagles vs. Green Bay Packers game, which is being played in São Paulo, Brazil, will air exclusively on Peacock; NBC's online streaming platform.

According to the Eagles website, the first game is being played in Brazil as part of an effort to "emphasize global growth as a major strategic priority".
