FORTY FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A snip of a ribbon and a round of applause signals a new chapter for the Wyoming Valley Children's Association. It held the ribbon-cutting on Saturday to mark what will be its new occupational and physical therapy building.

They recently bought the building from a neighbor to fill what the association calls a critical need.

FORTY FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local children's organization now has the power to make an even bigger difference thanks to an annual event. The Wyoming Valley Children's Association (WVCA) hosted its 33rd Annual Do It for the Kids Walk-A-Thon on Saturday.

More than 150 people all laced up their walking shoes in Forty Fort to support the early childhood education organization.

Walkers paid a fee to attend with the money supporting the school's programs and therapies that local children rely on.

Kids received a free container of chalk and decorated the sidewalks at the Millennium Circle portal.

These budding, young artists were able to take part in other free activities, too, like a family fishing program, environmental exhibits, and face painting.

Together, they officially marked the opening of the city's newest all-inclusive special needs playground.

The more than $1,000,000 project adds many upgrades, including almost 30 pieces of accessible equipment, disability-friendly walkways, and six new pickleball courts.

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new feature has been added to a local hiking, biking, and jogging trail. One woman started it as a way for others to connect with their lost loved ones. This project, called Wind Phone, is bittersweet for anyone who interacts with it.

The woman behind this new addition that she helped bring to life in Luzerne County has an emotional connection to it.

"'Grief is love with no place to go.' That was, like, my first major quote that I related to when I first lost my mom," Shavertown resident Tara Yamelski said.

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community came together to support two troopers shot and injured in Susquehanna County. On Saturday, engines roared and hundreds of motorcycles lined up outside Lakeland High School for much more than just a motorcycle run.

The roar of motorcycles filled the air as riders, families, and car enthusiasts gathered to honor troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins.

Both graduated from Lakeland, adding a special connection to the high school hosting this event.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT has announced lane restrictions on Interstate 81 that begin on Monday.

Lane restrictions will affect Interstate 81 Southbound between the Pittston and Wilkes-Barre exits on Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge inspection.
