DUI checkpoints set in Pennsylvania

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — State police announced DUI checkpoints will be placed across various roadways in Pennsylvania during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols aim to deter drinking and driving. Police say they are operating with a “zero-tolerance enforcement policy.”

Police say checkpoints will be placed on roadways from November 25 to December 1 that are experiencing high rates of DUI-related traffic violations and DUI-related crashes.

NJ man dies in two-car crash on I-80

BLAKESLEE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A New Jersey driver has died after officials say a two-car crash occurred on Interstate 80.

According to the Monroe County Coroner's Office, a two-vehicle crash happened on I-80 mile marker 286.6 in Blakeslee on Friday.

Driver dies after two-vehicle crash during snowstorm

The coroner reports one driver, a 58-year-old man from Elmwood, New Jersey, died as a result of the crash.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.

COOLBAUGH TWP., MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A driver has died after police say his car crashed into a box truck due to snow conditions on State Route 611.

On November 22, the Pocono Mountain Regional Police were called to a crash involving a sedan and a box truck.

Police stated one driver, Brian Rambhawan, 36, of Pocono Summit, was traveling south on SR611 when he lost control of his car on the snow-covered roads.

BEAR CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The snowstorm hit the Bear Creek area of Luzerne County very hard. As much as 15 inches fell in the area.

Hundreds of people are without power. We saw residents filling gas containers for their generators.

Two injured during Luzerne County stabbing, man arrested

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police report a man was arrested after two men were left injured during a stabbing in Luzerne County Thursday.

On Thursday, November 21, around 4:00 am, officers saw a car travel through a red light at the intersection of Broad Street and Church Street in Hazleton.

When officers pulled over the car they saw the driver was bleeding heavily from his face. The victim claimed he had just been assaulted at Flow-X on West Broad Street, police stated. While police were at the hospital, they said a second stabbing victim arrived.

Man faces charges after police standoff in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police released details after a stand-off in Wilkes-Barre Tuesday shut down a road for a few hours.

According to investigators, on November 19 around 2:00 p.m., officers were called to Terrace Street for a man refusing to leave a house and threatening to shoot Luzerne County Sheriff's Department deputies.

Police said on the scene deputies told them they were at the house to serve a PFA eviction to Robert Gronski, 62, of Wilkes-Barre, who said he was "going to shoot them and let his dogs out after them."

UPDATE Police: Former marketing director funneled $870,000 to own accounts

LEWISBURG — A former marketing director for the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau created a fake marketing company to funnel nearly $870,000 into his bank accounts and used the bureau credit card to pay for a monthly subscription to a sexually explicit website depicting nude children and adults, according to state police in Milton.
