Scranton diocese responds to deadly church attack in Michigan

(WBRE/WYOU) — The attack at the Michigan church is the latest attack on a house of worship in the United States. Last month, a catholic church was attacked in Minnesota. Two children were killed, and 21 other people were injured.

Now questions are being raised across the country and here in our area, what, if anything, can be done to stop it from happening here?

SPCA of Luzerne County acquire new building for shelter

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The SPCA of Luzerne County announced it has acquired the former Dundee Gardens property to enhance its shelter facilities.

According to the SPCA of Luzerne County, the new facility, located at 2407 Sans Souci Parkway, Hanover, will expand and enhance the shelter facilities.

Inmate killed during fight over newspaper, fellow inmate charged

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Charges were filed against an inmate in Lackawanna County Prison after officials say he stabbed his fellow inmate to death.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher stated 43-year-old Eli Calero of East Stroudsburg has been charged with homicide for causing the death of fellow inmate, Michael Jones Jr., during a fight at the Lackawanna County Prison.

Details into shooting, security officer killed in gated community

SALEM TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Details released for a shooting where police say a man shot at his parents and killed a security officer at a gated community in Wayne County.

26-year-old Lucas Gartrell from Lake Ariel has been charged with homicide after detectives stated he shot and killed a security guard at The Hideout community after he shot at his parents.

At 3:00 p.m. Sunday, troopers were called to a reported shooting at The Hideout community on Oakwood Court and Lakewood Drive.
