Board President of the Luzerne County Fair Alan Pugh collapsed to the ground in a life-threatening emergency.

10-year-old Ben Hineline was in the right place at the right time and sprang into action.

Suspect arrested in armed robbery investigation

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they have a suspect in custody Thursday afternoon after an armed robbery at an auto repair shop on Wednesday.

Kline Township Police have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Chase Lynn Abbit, currently homeless, but originally from Los Angeles, California.

Butler Township have charged Abbit with receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license and use/possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Man accused of threatening Special Olympics participants with hammer

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man threatened Special Olympics participants at Kirby Park, then later threw fecal matter on the walls of a holding cell.

Officers were called to Kirby Park for a report of a man harassing several people and threatening them with a hammer.

On the scene, police said the victims claimed the man, later identified as Matthew Fisher, 36, of Wilkes-Barre, approached them and a group of people participating in a Special Olympics event held at Kirby Park.

Alleged drug dealer charged, bust reveals several pounds of weed

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An alleged drug dealer has been arrested after police say a three-month investigation led to the discovery of several pounds of marijuana.

On August 28, the Hazleton Police Department Special Response Team executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence on Peace Street in Hazleton for 22-year-old Sanyel Calzado Berroa.

Crash on I-80 had shut down all lanes of traffic

(WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT reported a crash on Interstate 80 Thursday morning had shut down all lanes of traffic.

PennDOT stated a crash occurred on I-80 westbound between Exit 256: PA 93-Conygham/Nescopeck in Luzerne County and Exit 242: PA 339-Mainville/Mifflinville in Columbia County around 12:40 a.m.

Details on the crash are limited at this time. Both lanes of traffic on the westbound side were shut down, and drivers were being directed towards Route 93 and Route 11.

Mold tests at Wilkes-Barre elementary school come back clean

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There is no mold at a Wilkes-Barre elementary school, 28/22 News first reported about on Tuesday.

The principal at Kistler Elementary in Wilkes-Barre says the test results for mold came back clean.

Mother of victim speaks after thwarted Scranton kidnapping

The tests were ordered after custodians spotted white patches in two classrooms on Tuesday.

School at Kistler Elementary will begin on Thursday as scheduled.
