Crews called to Shickshinny head-on crash

SHICKSHINNY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were on the scene Thursday evening after a head-on crash in Shickshinny.

Officials told 28/22 News authorities were called to the unit block of South Main Street in Shickshinny at about 5:00 p.m. for a two-vehicle head-on crash.

Two families displaced after Tremont fire

Authorities say at least two people were hurt but there is no word at this time on the severity of their injuries.

Details into shooting, man flees after being shot in the face

DENNISON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We are learning more details about a shooting that took place in Luzerne County over the weekend, where police say a man ran from his house after being shot in the face.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on November 30, around 5:30 p.m., troopers were called to Peat Moss Raod in Dennison Township for a shooting incident.

Morning commuters face messy road conditions

BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Snow squalls and showers led to a messy morning commute for drivers today.

Plow trucks were out-treating and salting the roads before the sun came up on Thursday.

Snow squalls hit parts of the area like Bear Creek Township on Route 115, where just four and a half miles up the road, and about six minutes later, snow accumulated fast covering the roads.

However, the storm only hit parts of the region.

ALDI set to open in Wilkes-Barre Twp.

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Aldi officials announced they are opening a location in Wilkes-Barre Township.

According to the press release, Aldi is opening a new location in Wilkes-Barre Township on December 12 at 8:45 a.m.

Beer from Pennsylvania-based Yuengling to flow in Illinois

The store will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and to celebrate the first 100 customers will get a gift bag filled with a sampling of Aldi fan-favorite products, as well as a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.

LCTA buses running on snow routes due to storm

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Luzerne County Transportation Authority has announced buses will be operating on snow routes on December 5.

The LCTA CONNECTS microtransit service will operate on roads at the driver's discretion. The microtransit service does not have any fixed routes and therefore cannot give a full list of detailed services but LCTA says pick-ups and drop-offs should be able to be completed.

Keystone Mission prepares for influx of people during winter weather

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A homeless shelter in Wilkes-Barre is at max capacity Wednesday night and the cold weather is impacting it even more.

Keystone Mission says its intake has increased drastically. Those seeking shelter there say it's been difficult to live out in these conditions for hours at a time during the day.

Pam Shea waited outside Keystone Mission in Wilkes-Barre Wednesday night with a cough from suffering pneumonia.

She was waiting to return back into the homeless shelter after hours of being out in the cold.

Fire damages landscaping business in Luzerne County

LEHMAN TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire damaged a landscaping business and tied up traffic for a short time in Luzerne County Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Route 118 in Lehman Township when the fire was called in around 2:50 p.m.
