Man accused of multiple retail thefts across NEPA

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is wanted after he allegedly committed retail theft in stores across Northeastern Pennsylvania.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, a man is wanted for his involvement in multiple thefts throughout the area.

WEST HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An alleged teenage drug dealer was arrested in Luzerne County where police say over 2,000 doses of fentanyl were seized.

The West Hazleton Police Department stated a month-long investigation was conducted into the sales of various drugs within the borough.

On Friday, March 15, a Honda Accord was turning onto a street when it nearly stuck a marked patrol car, police said. The driver began to flee from officers until he was forced to stop due to heavy traffic.

Wilkes-Barre man pleads guilty to aggravated assault, firearm charges

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Over a year after charges were filed, a Wilkes-Barre man pled guilty Monday to multiple charges.

After an investigation, police found Antwon Leon Bickerstaff drove into the Hilltop Apartments complex in Edwardsville and parked near Roosevelt Street where he spoke with Edrisa Sey.

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Years after an Edwardsville fatal crash, officials say a Kingston man pled guilty to multiple charges for the incident on Monday.

On November 8, 2021, police were called to a two-car crash where Brentton Bailey Vandyke was driving on Route 11 when he struck a Volkswagon.

Rosemary Gawat was a passenger in the Volkswagon and was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township where she later died.

Firefighter cited for Butler Township crash

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The firefighter driving a fire truck that led to a crash has been cited.

Colby Bognar has been charged for the crash that injured six people in Luzerne County.

Two fire trucks collided on Route 309 in Butler Township Saturday afternoon.

Fredrick Street fire in Wilkes-Barre ruled accidental

One truck was from Valley Regional Fire and the other was from Hazel Township Fire.

They were both responding to a fire on Grouse Ridge Lane in the Beech Mountain Lakes development at the time.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — After an investigation, officials have ruled a Saturday morning house fire, accidental.

According to a press release from Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown's Office, a fire that recently ignited inside 29 Fredrick Street in Wilkes-Barre, has been ruled accidental in nature for improper use of extension cords and electrical space heaters.

College event helps women find the perfect dress

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local college played matchmaker of sorts for girls and women looking for the perfect dress.

King's College hosted what's called Damsel in a Dress on campus.

The inaugural event first aimed to find high school students a dress for prom, but after collecting more than 500 donated dresses, the college expanded its mission.

It also offered wedding gowns and mother-of-the-bride or groom dresses, as well as cocktail, gala, and casual dresses.

Corned beef was part of several items on the menu which featured some Emerald Irish-themed names like Lucky Leprechaun breakfast bowl, soda bread french toast, and Emerald Isle fries.

According to the Nanticoke City Police Department, police were dispatched to Garfield Street for a reported domestic assault with a weapon involved.

Man convicted in 2021 fatal crash in Wayne County

Officials say 67-year-old Leland Crane, of Nanticoke was taken into custody for pointing 9 mm handgun at the victim after an argument.
