JESSUP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We’re just two days away from the Running of the Saints in Jessup for St. Ubaldo Day.

But the celebratory kick-off of festivities begins at a local fire company’s annual carnival.

Raindrops falling down in Jessup aren’t putting a damper on the fun of Memorial Day weekend.

Jessup Hose Company Number 2’s annual carnival kicked off Wednesday night, a wet start to a jam-packed event.

Organization to hold walk for only 24/7 women's shelter

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Preparations are underway for an annual walk that raises awareness about women's homelessness in northeastern Pennsylvania.

This is Volunteers of America Pennsylvania largest fundraiser to support Ruth's Place in Wilkes-Barre.

It is the only 24/7 emergency shelter for women in Luzerne County.

Police say they are searching for Angelina Prowitt Rodriguez, age 16, height 5'3, weight 100 pounds.

She was last seen near Hazle Street and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard wearing sweatpants and a hoodie with her hair in a bun. She was carrying a large tote bag with large white letters on the side.

Annual Miss Unico Pageant kicked off in Luzerne County

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The annual Miss Unico Pageant was held Wednesday at the Luzerne County courthouse, but this pageant is not just about looks; the girls were also judged on their impact on their community and service over self.

The judges are four well-known and accomplished women in Luzerne County, one being the Pittston Chambers' Accomplished Woman of the Year.

PennDOT promotes safe driving with Click It or Ticket event

WEST HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) officials are promoting safe driving ahead of the holiday weekend. They took part on Wednesday in a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement event in West Hazleton.

The initiative aims to emphasize the life-saving importance of wearing a seat belt while traveling on Pennsylvania roadways.

According to PennDOT data in 2024, there were 1127 roadway fatalities in Pennsylvania, with 311 involving unbelted occupants.
