Former officer arrested for allegedly impersonating police

WILKES-BARRE TWP. LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former Schuylkill County police officer is accused of getting caught impersonating an officer to police.

Wilkes-Barre Township Police say they pulled over 31-year-old Angel Abreu-Nunez after they saw his truck had a fraudulent/counterfeit Pennsylvania Temporary License Plate.

During the stop, police said Abreu-Nunez identified himself as an off-duty officer and provided a Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission identification card for a police department in Schuylkill County.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Performers of all ages got their chance to showcase their talents in an annual competition in Wilkes-Barre. 25 finalists performed on Sunday afternoon at the FM Kirby Center for the Fourth Annual NEPA's Got Talent.

More than 100 people signed up to take a swing at the 18-hole course in this family-friendly spin on classic golf fundraisers.

All proceeds support children's programs and early literacy outreach at the library on South Franklin Street.

COALDALE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Coaldale firefighters were on the scene for hours at a fire that broke out in an RV Sunday morning.

Officials say the Coaldale Fire Department was called at 11:30 a.m. to the 100 block of East Water Street in Coaldale for a reported fire.

In a video shared with 28/22 News by Channel 1 News, a tower of smoke could be seen pouring out from an RV.

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Sunday morning fatal house fire is under investigation in Luzerne County.

The Luzerne County Coroner's Office stated they responded to the 600 block of Main Street for a woman dead after a house fire.

According to the Avoca Fire Department, a call for a reported structure came in just after 5:00 a.m.

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say a woman is facing arson charges after a fire in Hazle Township.

Troopers say in a release on Wednesday, March 19, before 9:00 p.m., authorities were called to the 1000 block of North James Street in Hazle Township.

When state police arrived on scene, they discovered a row of bushes, measuring about 150 feet long, was involved in a fire.

Many held signs calling for the protection of workers from the gutting of several federal departments.

Protesters took aim at the recently created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and tech billionaire Elon Musk who leads it.
