Around 70 wild animals rescued amid Texas flooding

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Wildlife Rescue said it has rescued around 70 animals since the deadly Independence Day flash flooding around Central Texas.

Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR) said this time of year is "baby season" for many wildlife creatures, and the major storms most impacted those that create nests or dens on the ground.

County officials release details on splash pad closure in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A popular way to cool off in Scranton is out of service. Lackawanna County says the splash pad at McDade Park is temporarily shut down because of a water pump issue.

There is no word yet on when it'll be back up and running.

In addition to this loss, the pool at McDade Park still hasn't opened for the season because of multiple leaks.

Third victim dies in Schuylkill County triple shooting

SHENANDOAH, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A third victim has died, and police have now identified the people involved after a triple shooting in Schuylkill County.

The shooting happened early Thursday morning in Shenandoah on the 300 block of West Centre Street.

When police arrived on the scene, a young boy told them that "Daddy shot Mom and granddad." The youngster is okay.

Police found 63-year-old Thomas Chernewski inside, dead from a gunshot wound.

Food distribution programs getting over $1M in grant money

28/22 NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Some local organizations are getting more than $1,000,000 in grant money to make improvements. Three organizations in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties are set to receive more than $1,200,000 in grant money to improve food storage and infrastructure.

State Senator Marty Flynn announced more than $723,000 to the Food Equity Project of Luzerne County.

Those funds will be used to build cold storage, processing, and delivery systems for local farms.

The state senator also announced grant money for the Michael Family Farm in Luzerne County.
