With the first significant winter weather event forecasted this week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is providing the below winter driving advice for motorists to consider if traveling is necessary.
BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg Police Department is notifying all residents of a potential flooding hazard. Heavy rain is expected over the next 18 hours along with warm temperatures that will bring a large amount of water into Fishing Creek and the Susquehanna River. As of 11:00 AM this date the river is expected to crest at 7:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 26.4 feet (7 feet above flood stage).

Motorists who travel Interstate 80 westbound in Columbia and Montour Counties are advised the highway is closed west of the Exit 232 (Buckhorn) due to a multi-vehicle crash.
Motorists in north central Pennsylvania are advised the following roads are closed in the area today due to flooding or downed trees and utilities.
A three-week detour will go into effect at approximately 7 a.m. next Monday, April 29, on Route 487 (Lightstreet Road) in the Town of Bloomsburg. A contractor will construct a pedestrian bridge over the street at Bloomsburg University.
The detour route will be Routes 11/487 (East Street) and Central Road.
Work is expected to be completed and the detour lifted by May 18.
