Bike helmet giveaway at Pittston Tomato Festival

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Tomato enthusiasts are coming together as Pittston's Tomato Festival continues for day two, but the event isn’t just about food and fun.

Black bags are getting filled, ready to burst, all for a mission in motion outside of Hourigan, Kluger, and Quinn Law in Kingston, on Friday.

Volunteers from the group’s non-profit, 'HKQ Kids', are packing up helmets for its annual Bike Helmet Giveaway on Saturday.

Man faces DUI homicide for crash that killed motorcyclist 

ROARING BROOK TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is charged with homicide while driving under the influence after police say he was involved in a deadly crash that killed a motorcyclist.

On July 6, a crash occurred at the intersection of Route 307 and Donny Drive, involving a vehicle and a motorcycle in Roaring Brook Township.

30-year-old Christian T. Herbert from Scranton was the operator of the motorcycle and was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he suffered during the crash.

Details on free John Oates concert in Wilkes-Barre Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — John Oates will be performing at the City of Wilkes-Barre's free summer concert on Public Square on Saturday, August 23.

The concert will begin with opener Bret Alexander at 7:00 p.m., with John Oates and his Good Road Band starting around 8:00 p.m.

There will be local food vendors present, including Bulldog BBQ, Cosenza's on the Go, Geraldo's Pizza, Handel's Ice Cream, Snook Wings and Things, Tony Thomas Lemonade, Yogi's Potato Pancakes, and more.

Three charged with passing counterfeit cash at multiple Sheetz

(WBRE/WYOU) — Three men are facing charges after police say they targeted multiple Sheetz in Luzerne County, attempting to pass hundreds of dollars worth of counterfeit cash.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, the following three men are charged after an investigation revealed they used five counterfeit $100 bills to add $500 in digital currency to a PayPal or a CashApp account:

Andre Michael Fonseca, 37, of Brooklyn

Ryan Damon McQueen, 38, of Brooklyn

Tyree J. Smith, 38, of New Jersey,

FBI raids home of John Bolton, Trump's former national security adviser

(The Hill) – Federal agents raided the Washington-area home of President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton on Friday morning.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission” in a post on X at 7 a.m. EDT, shortly before the New York Post broke the news of the raid. 

The FBI confirmed there was “court-authorized law enforcement activity” in the area near Bolton’s home in Bethesda, Maryland. 

Pennsylvania rejects 'concerning attempt' by DOJ to access voter rolls

(WHTM) -- Pennsylvania will not hand over its statewide voter registration list, including personal information such as driver's license and Social Security numbers, after the Department of Justice requested it earlier this month.

An Aug. 4 letter sent by the DOJ to Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt asked for the state's electronic voter roll, as well as information on its answers to a survey about election administration. The department did not provide a reason for the request.
