SUNBURY — Sunbury City Council will try again to fill open seat on the board Monday after a judge sent the decision back to the board.

An Ohio woman fraudulently obtained thousands of dollars from the bank account of a First National Bank customer in Lewisburg and Sunbury, according to Buffalo Valley Regional Police and Sunbury City Police.

SUNBURY — A growing number of Sunbury residents have been using Lower Anthracite Transportation System, more commonly known as LATS, since April.

Astronaut James Lovell, who was commander of the 1970 Apollo 13 mission that managed to get back to earth safely after an oxygen tank explosion, has died. He was 97. NASA confirmed his death in a statement Friday. Lovell was also part of the Apollo 8 flight that became the first to circle the moon and was one of NASA’s most traveled astronauts through its early years, going into space four times. Lovell was supposed to be the fifth man to walk on the moon in 1970. But Apollo 13’s service module, carrying Lovell and two others, experienced an oxygen tank explosion.

WHITE DEER — Starting Aug. 15 a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation paving crew will begin milling the surface pavement on Old Route 15 between Route 642 in West Milton and White Deer Pike in White Deer.

ALLENWOOD — The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will hold its 49th annual train show and sale on Aug. 24.

In the wake of the latest death of an ICE detainee, immigration and social justice advocates are calling on federal and local officials to shut down one of the largest federal immigration detention centers in Pennsylvania.

A new program will begin this school year in the Bloomsburg Area School District. It focuses on the academic and material needs of students.
