PennDOT lifts speed restrictions on PA roadways

(WBRE/WYOU) — On Sunday night, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced speed restrictions have been lifted.

While PennDOT crews have been working to treat the roadways, their priority is to keep the roads passable, not completely free of snow and ice.

PennDOT asks drivers to give plow trucks plenty of space when traveling and to never try to pass a truck while it’s spreading winter materials or plowing.

Scouts heat things up in Avoca with chili cookoff

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Hot chili sounds good on a cold winter day, and that's exactly what some scouts served up on Sunday.

Avoca/Dupont Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 316 took part in a Chili Cookoff and Bake Sale at Queen of Apostles Parish.

Prizes were handed out to the hottest and best chili.

Where attendees could pay $5 to taste and judge the chili entries, the food-themed fundraiser helped celebrate Scout Day: A day to recognize and honor scouts for their contributions.
