SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Charges were filed against an inmate in Lackawanna County Prison after officials say he stabbed his fellow inmate to death.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher stated 43-year-old Eli Calero of East Stroudsburg has been charged with homicide for causing the death of fellow inmate, Michael Jones Jr., during a fight at the Lackawanna County Prison.

SALEM TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Details released for a shooting where police say a man shot at his parents and killed a security officer at a gated community in Wayne County.

26-year-old Lucas Gartrell from Lake Ariel has been charged with homicide after detectives stated he shot and killed a security guard at The Hideout community after he shot at his parents.

At 3:00 p.m. Sunday, troopers were called to a reported shooting at The Hideout community on Oakwood Court and Lakewood Drive.

Bloomsburg Fair reaches highest attendance since 2019

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The numbers are in for the official attendance of the 170th Bloomsburg Fair.

Over the course of eight days, a total of 406,113 people entered through the fair gates.

This marked the highest attendance at the fair since 2019, when 411,869 people attended.

101-year-old dives in Luzerne County skies

The highest attended day of the 2025 Bloomsburg Fair was the final day, Saturday, September 27, when 60,637 people attended.

The highest single-day attendance record for the fair was in 2007 on the final Saturday.

Driver killed in crash after car bursts into flames identified

KIDDER TWP., CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Carbon County Coroner's Office has identified the driver who died after he hit a tree, causing his car to burst into flames.

On September 26, the Carbon County Coroner’s Office responded to a crash on Route 940 in Kidder Township.

The coroner stated a vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree, and, on impact, burst into flames. First responders tried to extricate the victim but were unsuccessful.
