Tips for keeping our pets safe amid high temps

(WBRE/WYOU) — As the temperatures rise across the Keystone State and many are taking steps to beat the heat, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is reminding pet owners how to keep their pets safe amid the summer heat.

The ASPCA provided pet owners with some pointers from their experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) to keep their furry friends healthy this summer.

Governor Shapiro announces $30M investment in Pittston

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Governor Josh Shapiro announced on Monday a $30,000,000 investment into Luzerne County.

The company, Pittston Co-Packers Corp, will open its first beverage production facility in the US in Pittston.

Jury summons 6th person in Kohberger case

The commonwealth invested $1,000,000 to support the new operation.

The company will move into the former Joriki Beverages, which closed in January.

This new investment is expected to create hundreds of jobs in Luzerne County.

Jury summons 6th person in Kohberger case

(WBRE/WYOU) — Another witness from Monroe County has been summoned to testify in the Bryan Kohberger homicide trial.

This is the sixth person from our area who will potentially have to testify in Idaho as a witness.

Their connections to kohberger are unknown at this time.

Naked child found alone leads to parents’ arrest

On June 30, all six will have a chance to plead their case before the trial begins in August.

Kohberger is charged with the first-degree murder of four University of Idaho students in 2022.

Robotics class sends off high-altitude weather balloon

DRUMS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The phrase "teamwork makes the dream work" has become popular ever since a clergyman coined it a couple of decades ago. The expression certainly applies to some local students.

They achieved their dream of having a class project take flight quite literally.

Juniors and seniors at Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences received their marching orders for a high-flying project in John Berta's robotics class.

Their project? To launch a 42-foot high-altitude weather balloon more than 100,000 feet into the atmosphere.

Woman accused of stealing around $500K from employer 

CHESTNUTHILL TWP., MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police said in a report Monday that an employee of a lab company is accused of stealing around $500,000 of funds for her personal use after a receipt was found in the bathroom. 

According to PSP, troopers were called to investigate at Prosser Laboratories after the owner said a Staples receipt was found in the company's employee restroom.
