PennDOT announces upcoming lane restrictions on I-81 in Susquehanna County

(WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Monday there will be lane restrictions on Interstate 81 in Susquehanna County.

In a release, PennDOT says there will be lane restrictions on Interstate 81 North and Southbound from Exit 206, Glenwood/Lenoxville, to Exit 223, New Milford/Lakeside, in Susquehanna County for tree trimming and removal.

Work will happen from Tuesday, March 4, to Thursday, March 6, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Preparations for Scranton Saint Patrick's Parade still underway

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We are just five days away from Scranton's 63rd annual Saint Patrick's Parade. The Irish flags are hung all over the downtown area.

Lackawanna County held their flag raising at the County Courthouse over the weekend, but preparations for the big day are still underway.

The city is expected to host their flag raising at City Hall on Wednesday.

Middle school program helps students learn healthy communication, reduce violence

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An area middle school is piloting a new program to teach students skills they can use in and outside of the classroom.

Research shows the program helps students learn healthy communication skills and reduce violence.

WRC, formerly known as Women's Resource Center, provides education programs to schools, like the Healthy Relationships Program, to teach students safe boundaries at an early age and put them on the right track.

Data from the CDC shows about one in twelve high school students experience dating violence.

Oliver and his army helping pediatrics in need

NEW BERLIN, UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — You don't have to "be" big to "think" big, and a Union County boy is proof of that.

After undergoing a life-threatening health battle, he's helping other children in the same situation.

You probably wouldn't think of a kid leading an army, but then you probably haven't met Oliver Auman.

The philanthropic group, Oliver's Army, is named after the 10-year-old New Berlin boy.

"It just feels good to know that you're helping someone," Oliver explained.
