101-year-old dives in Luzerne County skies

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Bradford County woman is proving that age is merely a number. At 101 years old, the Le Raysville woman leaped from an airplane Sunday afternoon, and it was far from her first time.

101-year-old Clara White descended from high above Hazleton Regional Airport Sunday afternoon, sharing this skydive with someone close to her, someone a fraction of her age.

"It was awesome, I love coming and doing it with Nan," Skydiver Charles Heddings said.

Crash closes Jackson Township road, detour in place

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Sunday a detour is in place after a crash in Northumberland County.

In the release, PennDOT advised drivers that Route 225 in Jackson Township between Mandata Road and Herndon Bypass Road, or Route 3006, is closed in both directions.

This comes after PennDOT says a crash happened in the area and a detour is in place using local roads.

Fall-themed craft show takes over Dallas pavilion

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fall event in Luzerne County's Back Mountain is celebrating 40 years. Irem Shrine Temple hosted its Annual Craft Show on Sunday in Dallas.

More than 40 vendors filled the pavilion with things like handmade crafts and fresh food, while fall-themed fun for the kids took over the outside.

From raffle baskets to distilleries, the Craft Show put community creativity on full display.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fundraiser for a non-profit medical system is why dozens and dozens of people laced up their sneakers Sunday morning in Scranton.

Nearly 200 runners and walkers were eager for the sound of the starting airhorn at Veterans Memorial Stadium. They participated in Team Allied Services 5K and All-Abilities Walk.

Cheerleaders helped boost the energy and vibes for participants and even those who did not run.

Organizers consider the event a celebration of communities, abilities, and inclusion.

Extra security marks homecoming weekend in Clinton Township

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A high school football game was finally played after a safety scare. 28/22 News has been following the concerns at Lackawanna Trail High School. The Lions got to host that game with the old Forge Blue Devils.

The rivalry between Lackawanna Trail and Old Forge is intense, but at this year's homecoming, safety concerns overshadowed the kickoff.

The game was postponed from Friday to Sunday after a student was seen climbing a building on campus earlier this month to access the roof.

Arrest made after deadly shooting in gated community

WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police say a man has been arrested after three people were shot Sunday afternoon in a Wayne County community.

At 3:00 p.m. Sunday, troopers were called to a reported shooting at The Hideout community.

Drone footage 28/22 news obtained from NEPA News: Live shows state police on Miller Road in Salem Township pinning someone to the hood of a cruiser.

When state police arrived, they say they found 26-year-old Lucas Gartrell from Lake Ariel in the area of the shooting and took him into custody without incident.
