Death investigation underway in Wilkes-Bare

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating a death in Wilkes-Barre, Saturday.

Authorities say around 3:30 a.m., officers were called Saturday morning on the 100 block of Hazle Street.

PSP Troopers recovering after Susquehanna County shooting

According to police, a 30-year-old woman with an unspecified neck wound died at the hospital.

Wilkes-Barre Police Detectives and the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office are leading the investigation.

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — What better time than dinnertime to talk about all sorts of sumptuous sausage at a popular local event? The Plymouth Kielbasa Festival is into its second day in Luzerne County.

It attracted a huge crowd on Saturday, including a pair of familiar faces.

28/22 morning co-anchors Tom Williams and Gianna Galli stepped up to the judges' table and sat down to sample kielbasi from a variety of vendors.

Even those who were not celebrity judges made sure to get a taste of what this festival has to offer.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Wilkes-Barre, there was a different kind of festival as colorful booths, handmade goods, and live music were all part of the Third Annual NEPA Pagan Pride Day Festival.

People of all ages turned out for the festival, browsing more than 30 vendors, taking part in workshops, and learning all about Paganism.

Admission was a donation to the Bread Basket of NEPA, which supports seven food pantries across the region.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Yoga, music, and art all come together to highlight mental health. Saturday's Healing Through Community event at Nay Aug Park also puts a spotlight on a local film inspired by love and trauma.

Attendees at the Marmi Pavilion laid out yoga mats for a day of mindful movement, live music, and connection.

The event raised awareness and funds for Scranton Counseling Center and for the upcoming feature, Hold Her Hand.

Kids hit hardwood in Scranton for 11th Annual Cody Barrasse Memorial Basketball Tournament

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Kids of all ages hit the hardwood for a good cause on Saturday in Scranton. They filled the gym at Scranton Prep to play in the 11th Annual Cody Barrasse Memorial Basketball Tournament.

Hundreds participated in three-on-three games at the Xavier Center.

Money raised goes toward supporting organ donors and recipients in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The 22-year-old Barrasse became an organ donor in 2013 when he was struck by a car and killed.

THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News has an update on the two Pennsylvania State troopers who were ambushed Thursday by a gunman in Susquehanna County.

Troopers William Jenkins and Joseph Perechinsky were each shot twice while responding to a deadly shooting in Thompson Township.

A Geisinger spokesperson says Trooper Jenkins was released on Saturday from Geisinger Wyoming Valley following treatment of gunshot wounds to both arms.

Concerns raised over potential Commonwealth Health sale

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Significant concerns were raised and centered on a potential healthcare shakeup in northeastern Pennsylvania. Three hospitals are included in a proposed deal between Commonwealth Health and Tenor Health Foundation. Now, one of the hospitals is pushing back.

Board members at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital are asking state lawmakers for their help to halt a deal involving the sale of the hospital.
