Football booster club president in court to face theft charge

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — He was entrusted with money that was raised to support a high school football team, but he spent that money, tens of thousands of dollars, on himself, so says Luzerne County prosecutors.

47-year-old Sterling Kepp was president of the Nanticoke 12th Man Football Booster Club.

On Wednesday, he was in court to face a theft charge.

Sterling Kepp is heading to Luzerne County court for a possible trial.

Booster club members say he stole much more than money, he violated the trust of the entire community.

Pa. doctor convicted for allegedly giving patients illegal drug 'goody bags'

(WBRE/WYOU) — A federal jury has convicted a doctor of committing health care fraud after investigators say he provided patients with illegal "goody bags" that they did not need or want.

According to court documents, 48-year-old Neil K. Anand M.D., of Bensalem conspired to submit false claims to Medicare, health plans provided by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Independence Blue Cross (IBC), and Anthem, for "goody bags" of medically unnecessary prescription medications, which were given to patients from an in-house pharmacies owned by Anand.

Man dies after being hit by car

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The coroner's office has stated a man hit by a car in Wilkes-Barre Monday evening has died.

The Luzerne County Coroner's office confirmed with 28/22 News that 54-year-old Michael Walter died at the hospital after being hit by a car on April 14.

Emergency crews were called to North Pennsylvania Avenue and East Union Street in Wilkes-Barre just after 8:00 p.m. for a report of a person hit by a vehicle.

(WBRE/WYOU) — An alleged teen gang member is going to prison for a deadly shooting in Scranton.

Kenneth Tapia was ordered to serve at least 20 years for third-degree murder on Tuesday.

Police say when Tapia was 17 years old, he shot Robert Dawson during a fight near Weston Field in April of last year.

Dawson later died at the hospital. Tapia pleaded guilty to homicide charges back in February.

Gun found in student's backpack at school

POCONO SUMMIT, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pocono Mountain Regional Police say a gun was found on a student Wednesday morning.

Police say during routine security protocols at Pocono Mountain West High School, a firearm was detected and, after a search, a gun was found in a student's backpack Tuesday morning around 7:00 a.m.

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been charged after police say he put a hidden camera in a bathroom to record women while using the shower.

According to the Dallas Borough Police Department, officers were called in November 2023 for a woman reporting that she had found a camera hidden inside a smoke detector in a bathroom.

The woman claimed that 63-year-old Albert Pritchard had put a hidden camera to secretly record her and two females, one of whom was under 18, police stated.

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say an apartment was found in deplorable conditions after a 4-year-old was found walking alone, causing two people to face charges.

According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, 28-year-old Dominique Scott and 29-year-old Kawne Hall are being charged after officers were called to the 1600 block of Sherman Street for a "4-year-old autistic child wandering alone in the middle of the road and in a state of undress."
