Next chapter for historic Wilkes-Barre train station

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It could be the next chapter for an iconic and historic train station in NEPA.

Luzerne County Council's Real Estate Committee agreed unanimously to possibly buy the historic former train station in Wilkes-Barre.

The station was built in 1868 and was used as a railroad station for 104 years.

The property was converted into a popular nightclub in the 80s before falling into a state of disrepair in the early 2000s.

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's an unsure future for Penn State students in Northeastern Pennsylvania as the university considers closing some of its satellite campuses.

Rumors about Penn State closing some campuses began to circulate earlier this year, but until now, the university has not directly addressed them, leaving many with questions about the future.

Penn State University has a total of 19 satellite, or commonwealth campuses, across Pennsylvania.

Man accused of indecent exposure to child now behind bars

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they arrested a man Tuesday evening after allegedly exposing himself to a child.

Edwardsville Police Officer Mike Lehman told 28/22 News they arrested John Gittens for alleged disorderly conduct and indecent exposure to minors.

Police say Gittens failed to notify authorities about his change of address and to register with Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law.

DPW filling potholes amid warmer temperatures in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some potholes are filled after several Department of Public Works (DPW) crews in Luzerne County got to take advantage of Tuesday's warmer temperatures.

28/22 News caught up with workers near Coal Street Park in Wilkes-Barre as they were patching up nearby potholes.

They have been out doing temporary fillings since mid-January until it officially gets nicer out to do the permanent fix, something they say they have to do a bit of catching up on.
