Pocono Mtn Volunteer Fire celebrates 100 years of service

MOUNT POCONO, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Marking a huge milestone, a local volunteer fire company in the Poconos is celebrating a century of service.

Hitting triple digits of service, it’s an accomplishment worth bragging about here at the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company.

“One of the best things I ever heard was, ‘the greatest thing since sliced bread,’ well, we’ve been around longer than sliced bread!” said Terry Cramer, president of Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company.

Former manager of children's non-profit sentenced on fraud charges

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The former fiscal manager for the Children's Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania (CAC/NEPA) has been sentenced after being found guilty of wire fraud.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 51-year-old Angela Saar, of Olyphant, diverted fraudulent payments of various kinds from the CAC/NEPA bank accounts into her own bank accounts for her personal benefit.

The thefts happened from November 2018 to June 2022 while Saar was employed as the fiscal manager at the CAC/NEPA, the DOJ said.

To be honest, all of this still feels a bit strange. For the past couple of months, when I‘ve tried to imagine this moment, it‘s usually been a bit blurry around the edges. It may be my astigmatism talking, but, in truth, I think I’ve struggled to process that my four years here at Danville are finally coming to what feels like the most significant of ends.
