Local experts react to Trump's Autism announcement

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local pharmacists and researchers are reacting to President Trump's recent comments about autism being linked to Tylenol.

28/22 News Reporter Colby Hughes spoke to the owner of DePietro's Pharmacy in Dunmore and a professor at the University of Scranton about their reactions.

Both told 28/22 News there are too many conflicting studies surrounding this topic to be certain.

At a press conference this week, the president warned pregnant women against taking Tylenol.

Police investigate burglary at Brews Brothers Sports Bar & Grill

JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County sports bar was burglarized over the weekend.

Staff at Brews Brothers Sports Bar and Grill say the suspects broke through a window and stole an unknown amount of money. Staff say the suspects were in and out of the building quickly.

Jenkins Township Police said they cannot comment at this time because the burglary is still under investigation.

EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An area high school was evacuated early this morning over what is being called an "unverified threat."

State troopers responded to the Wyoming Area Secondary Center after it went into lockdown. This was after a written threat was found on the stall of a girls' bathroom in the school.

The threat was related to a weapon, according to a press release from the school obtained by 28/22 news.

Officials warn PA residents of phishing scam

(WBRE/WYOU) — Officials are warning Pennsylvania residents to stay vigilant as scammers in a new phishing scam are now posing as Department of Revenue staff, targeting financial and personal data.

In a release, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne issued a warning of a phishing scam targeting residents of the Keystone State.

Authorities explain that the scam involves fraudulent text messages that impersonate Department of Revenue officials and try to fool recipients into giving sensitive financial and personal information.

Lottery ticket worth $2 million sold in Pa.

(WBRE/WYOU) — A lucky lottery player was sold a winning Powerball ticket worth $2 million that was purchased online.

Pennsylvania Lottery awarded a $2 million prize on a winning Powerball with Power Play ticket purchased online for the Monday, September 22 drawing.

The ticket matched five of the five white balls drawn, 3-29-42-46-59, but not the red Powerball 15 to win $2,000,000.
