Police showing off new wheels in Luzerne County

LUZERNE BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County police department is showing off its new wheels, and no, they're not new cruisers. The Luzerne Borough Police Department has added some bikes to its fleet.

Police officers in Luzerne Borough are swapping cruisers for a bicycle.

It's part of a new community policing effort that lets them get closer to the public, and into places regular patrol cars can't reach.

City officials say this will allow for better access to Gesinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A concert controversy is brewing in Luzerne County over an act that was set to take the stage at this year's Rockin' the River.

The frontman of Philadelphia-based band, Low Cut Connie, is publicly accusing concert promoters of cancelling its Friday night performance due to politics.

The lead singer of the band took to social media to share his frustration over the cancellation, but did not elaborate on those political differences.

Farm continues recovery after flooding damage

MUNCY VALLEY, SULLIVAN COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Many people in central Pennsylvania are continuing to pick up the pieces after last week's powerful rainstorms.

Years of hard work put into the Flooded Creek Farm by Bonnie Shaner and her late husband were swept away in just a few hours.

"We stood and watched the water come up 'til about 1:00, and then it slowed down for a little bit, and it started right back up and rained for another four hours. I don't know if I've ever seen it rain that hard," Shaner said.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Potato pancakes, porketta sandwiches, and clam chowder: Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre set up a food sale on Monday, and the locals came out in droves.

"This is great. It's our local community, like I said, the Bog is just down the road. Many of the parishioners here, when we were kids, we grew up there. And so, it feels really wonderful to be able to give back," Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Parishioner Sandra Serafin told 28/22 News.

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a crime that police say is usually committed in the shadows, behind closed doors. We are talking about domestic violence.

In Hazleton recently, domestic violence was front and center when a man allegedly pistol-whipped a pregnant woman in the middle of the street in broad daylight.

That man, Rodelfy Litriano Corniel, remains on the run. An arrest warrant was issued for Corniel 11 days ago. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Man stabbed 12 times after refusing alleged sexual advance

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man was found stabbed 12 times after he claims to have declined sex from a woman, leading to an assault.

On July 17, officers were called to an apartment complex on Roosevelt Street in Edwardsville for a reported stabbing. Once on the scene, the victim was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood with injuries to his abdomen.

A witness gave police the suspected knife used in the assault and informed them that the stabbing happened in the parking lot, investigators reported.
