Non-profit cleaning up cemetery honors veterans

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A first-of-its-kind event was held at Washburn Cemetery in Scranton. A new non-profit organization called Christmas Miracles from Heaven expanded their outreach this year to create miracles for the local community and frontline heroes.

Since the non-profit's start last year, crews have continued to clean up at the Washburn Street Cemetery.

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Lackawanna County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal crash in South Abington Township.

70-year-old Michael G. Fedorka, of Dickson City, passed away in the hospital after a two-car crash on the 700 block of North State Street around 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

According to Chief Wolfe of the South Abington Police Department, the crash was a head-on collision between two pickup trucks.

Chief Wolfe says the driver of the other vehicle is a 58-year-old man from Scranton who is in critical condition.

'StrangeFest' turns Scranton theater into macabre marketplace

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Strange, unusual, and undeniably popular: StrangeFest took over Scranton's historic Ritz Theater on Sunday, transforming it into a marketplace of the macabre.

More than a thousand people came out for oddities like taxidermy, vintage collectibles, and handmade jewelry from more than 45 vendors.

Besides shopping, guests got to enjoy tarot readings, themed refreshments, and explore booths filled with curiosities that catered to fans of all things weird.

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The county coroner was called after a crash in Lackawanna County Sunday night.

Authorities say crews were called to a crash on the 700 block of North State Street in South Abington Township, Lackawanna County, at about 8:00 p.m.

Police release details, coroner identifies man dead in drowning

The South Abington Police Department is heading the response, and PSP Dunmore is also responding to the incident, officials say.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Feet hit the trail for a cause that hits close to home. The Scranton Jewish Community Center's (JCC) 13th Annual Theresa Borgia Memorial 5K drew dozens to the Olive Street Pavilion along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.

All running in honor of a woman who left behind a powerful legacy.

The day featured a timed run and walk, with participants of all ages showing up to promote wellness and support the cancer recovery effort.

Show of patriotism marks Memorial Day weekend in Wyoming

WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A show of patriotism is helping mark this Memorial Day weekend at an annual event. A Revolutionary War Memorial Service was held on Sunday at the Wyoming Monument along Wyoming Avenue.

227 American flags were placed in front of the monument to symbolize each patriot killed in the Battle of Wyoming.

Patriotic bunting was also placed on the fence.

The sun arrives just in time for Memorial Day

Those who attended the service reflected on the importance of preserving and honoring such a significant part of local history.
