Keystone Drug and Alcohol celebrates first anniversary

WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local outpatient substance counseling program is marking a milestone. Keystone Drug and Alcohol is celebrating its first anniversary this week.

The facility on Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming hosted a community celebration Sunday afternoon.

The free event included food and refreshments, a birthday cake, and games and crafts for kids.

The center helps treat adolescents and adults in Luzerne, Lackawanna, and Wyoming Counties.

Ice skaters taking advantage of freezing temperatures

WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A group of skaters is taking advantage of ice for some hockey fun.

Several skaters took to the frozen pond on Sunday along the Luzerne County Levee Trail, near the Midway Shopping Center.

The group says they have been coming to this spot since 2008, but due to adverse weather or lack of players, it has been getting harder for them to have a game of hockey here.

There is ice buildup along the river as far as the eye can see in the Wyoming Valley.

Ice could be seen downstream and upstream from shore to shore near the Dennis Memorial Bridge in Wyoming.

There are still pockets of open water along the river, especially near bridge supports and we are happy to say there are no reports of any problems because of the ice along the Susquehanna River.

Hundreds of people gathered Sunday afternoon for the final mass at the iconic church in Wilkes-Barre and reflected on its nearly two centuries of history.

It was more than two months ago when church leaders recommended Saint Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Church close its doors and on Sunday, that day finally arrived.

Man accused of dismembering roommate found dead in prison cell

ALLENTOWN, LEHIGH COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A man arrested for killing and dismembering another man was found dead in his cell on Saturday January 11, according to a release by the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.

Officials say 34-year-old Joshua Moser was found unresponsive in his cell and later taken to a local hospital where he was found dead.

The staff tried to perform life-saving measures on Moser, but were unsuccessful, authorities state.

Father of Wawa shooting suspect now facing charges

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Pike County father has been arrested in connection with a homicide after his son allegedly shot a teenager at a Wawa last year in Monroe County, according to District Attorney Mike Mancuso.

Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso stated that 54-year-old Joseph Quattrochi was arrested a his home in Bushkill.

He is charged with aiding his son, 25-year-old Andrew Quattrochi, get away from the crime scene with the firearm that he allegedly used to shoot and kill 17-year-old Garrett Gearheart on November 30.
