Fire damages chimney manufacturing plant in Lackawanna County

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters were called to a chimney manufacturing plant Thursday night in Scranton.

According to officials the call came in around 7:15 p.m. for a reported fire at 600 Sanders Avenue, the site of Olympia Chimney Supplies.

Fire destroys Columbia County barn

According to the Scranton Fire Department Deputy Chief Dan Hallowich, the building was being evacuated when crews arrived on the scene.

It is unclear how many people were in the building at the time of the fire.

Water restored to Exeter Borough community

EXETER BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News has new information about some water issues in a mobile home park. After four days without running water, crews were able to fully restore water to the community in Luzerne County.

According to Exeter Borough's manager and an ARX maintenance manager, residents at Birchwood Village Estates in Exeter have had running water since 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Pittston Man facing over 50 child porn charges

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pittston man is facing charges after authorities report he downloaded child porn.

On February 12, police say officers received two Google-generated Cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children stating that 23-year-old Brayden Milcavage was believed to have uploaded and stored child pornography to the Google Drive infrastructure.

Investigators say 17 of the graphic images described in the affidavit were determined by police to be child abuse materials.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new kind of personal care home for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia opened its doors in December in the 'Diamond City.'

Now, the facility is fighting for a state license, to expand its care in the community.

ReminisCity Dementia Village in Downtown Wilkes Barre is a personal care home with a new, innovative approach to better serve those with Alzheimer's and dementia. However, they're facing some obstacles with their mission.

Food distribution for Wilkes-Barre fire victims

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We now know careless smoking was to blame for the fire that sparked at a Wilkes-Barre high-rise.

It sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and displaced more than 100 residents.

Community organizations came together Thursday to distribute food and supplies as the residents settled back into their homes.

There was a flurry of activity inside the B'nai B'rith Apartments.

Workers and volunteers from CEO Weinberg Food Bank were packing bags of food and supplies and delivering them to residents in each unit.

PD: Suspect wanted for multiple retail thefts at CVS, other stores

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A search for a suspect is underway after police reported multiple thefts at two CVS locations and other stores across Luzerne County.

The Wyoming Area Regional Police say they have received a report of a retail theft that had occurred at CVS Pharmacy in both Exeter Borough and Wyoming Borough.

Three wanted for alleged retail theft at Sheetz

The suspect pictured has allegedly been involved in other retail thefts in surrounding jurisdictions, police stated.

Caught on Camera: Dog attack aftermath causes look into Protection Laws

LOCK HAVEN, CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents of a Clinton County neighborhood say they are concerned about their safety, after a dog attack last week.

That attack was caught on camera and the drama unfolded in Lock Haven and 28/22 News first reported word of the attack on Wednesday.

The Lock Haven Police and the State Dog Warden are investigating the attack.

U.S. Attorney warns of COVID-19 cryptocurrency scam

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is warning the public about a national scam tricking people into paying cryptocurrency to lift fake arrest warrants.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, those targeted by the scam receive court documents saying they are being investigated for Payroll Protection Program (PPP) fraud and an arrest warrant has been issued.

Karam says the documents usually claim to have been sent from the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Civil Division's Commercial Litigation Branch.

High-speed chase involving PSP, search for suspect

LAMAR TWP., CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police are searching for a suspect involved in a high-speed chase on I-80.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on December 27 around 7:00 p.m., troopers tried to pull over a Mercedes-Benz A220 for multiple code violations.

Alleged dog abuse investigation underway

Police say the suspect came to a stop but then fled at high speed westbound on Interstate 80 leading troopers on a 16-mile chase.

Troopers eventually lost sight of the car on Interstate 99 causing police to stop the chase.

Man sentenced to over 17 years in prison for child porn charges

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A Connecticut man was sentenced to over 17 years in prison for trying to entice a minor online and producing child porn.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Thursday that Christopher Capozza, 42, originally from Newington, Connecticut, was sentenced to over 17 years in prison for the online enticement of a minor and production of child pornography.
