Fire destroys Columbia County barn

CATAWISSA, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Columbia County meat market was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Catawissa Assistant Fire Chief, first responders were called to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. this afternoon for reports of a fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they say a barn was fully engulfed in flames.

Business closed temporarily in Lackawanna County

The business was home to a butcher shop that recently just started processing maple syrup to be sold at stores.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Officials say police in Scranton responded to the report of shots fired Wednesday night.

Business closed temporarily in Lackawanna County

According to Lackawanna County Communications Center, the report of multiple shots fired came in at 9:07 p.m. in the 1200 block of Penn Avenue in Scranton.

There are no reported injuries, according to Lackawanna Communications Center.

New funding for E-sports team in Lycoming County

MUNCY BOROUGH, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A polling station in Lycoming County is getting a new location after the Board of Elections voted for the move.

The Muncy Borough 2nd Precinct polling station has been moved effectively immediately after the Lycoming County Board of Elections voted to move the station to a new location.

The First United Methodist Church, 602 South Market Street, and the first election is scheduled for April 23, for the General Primary.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Lackawanna County now has stricter guidelines for county employees and personnel.

The previous ethics code was created in 2008, but commissioners say times have changed since then. The previous code of ethics policy was also only three pages long, the new one adopted today is 20 pages.

Rare coroner's inquest scheduled in Ilonka Cann case

HUNTINGTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A rare coroner's inquest will be conducted into the cause and manner of death of a Luzerne County woman who mysteriously vanished more than 50 years ago.

It means a jury will render a decision based on testimony and evidence presented in court. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the death of Iionka Cann.

State police say there have been very few inquests held in the history of the county.

Scranton man accused of assault, terrorism

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Scranton man is being charged after police say he assaulted and berated a man at General Dynamics on Thursday.

According to a criminal affidavit, Austin Miller parked his car on Mattes Avenue around 2:52 p.m. when he saw a man in a red Subaru shouting out the window at other employees.

As the affidavit reads the man, identified as 41-year-old, Bryan Trischetta (pictured below) started yelling at Miller and calling him a “baby killer.”

Caught on Camera: Dog attack in Clinton County

LOCK HAVEN, CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Clinton County woman says she feared for her life and that of her dog after a pitbull attacked.

It happened in Lock Haven and the attack, captured on video, was quite the dramatic scene in Lock Haven. An 81-year-old woman takes her for her daily walk and it turns into something, a nightmare.

She says she will never forget and we warn viewers the video is disturbing.

A home security camera captured the attack last Wednesday morning a pit bull was on the side of a building, and then attacked.

Three accused of price tag-switching scheme at Cabela's

BERKS COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three men have been charged after police say they committed a retail theft scheme by price-tag switching expensive items at Cabela's.

Accorind to the Tiden Township Police Department, three men Charles Lehman, 46, Timothy Kelly, 39, both of Barnesville, and Julius Dudash, 42, of Mahanoy City, are charged with conspiring to switching price tags on expensive outdoor equipment causing Cabela’s near Hamburg to lose thousands of dollars.

Peach Music Festival not returning to Montage in 2024, Atlantic City set as new venue

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The annual Peach Music Festival will not be returning to its regular venue at Montage Mountain in 2024.

According to the festival's website, the 2024 festival will take place in Atlantic City on July 13 at the Island Waterpark at Showboat.

No reason was stated for the festival's departure from Montage, which has been Peach Fest's annual location since it started in 2012.

Tickets, which can be purchased from their website, start at $79.50 and go as high as $349.50.
