WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A drug treatment program in Luzerne County is getting a big boost. The County Council is taking action to make sure treatment is there to help people battling addiction.
This money, $267,000, is coming from a larger settlement the county received to battle opioid abuse.
The vote was unanimous.
Council Chairman John Lombardo says the vote came after the department approached the council to supplement a lack of funding from the state this year.
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local coffee shop was broken into, but they say they are still brewing. The owners at Abide Coffeehouse in Downtown Wilkes-Barre say someone kicked in their office door and stole hundreds of dollars.
Security footage shows someone in the business just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The person looked behind the counter before making their way to the office, where they pried open the door and stole money.

CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — First responders were on the scene of a deadly crash in Carbon County. Officials tell 28/22 news one person was killed and another sent to the hospital.
The Carbon County Communication Center told 28/22 News that Pennsylvania State Police Hazleton were called at about 5:00 p.m. for a reported crash.
Officials say one person is dead and another was injured and taken to a nearby hospital after the crash.

School administration says it's something that will help them keep up with new technology and better serve patients. Nursing students can take their learning a step further with the use of five new bedside laptop computers.
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Honoring women veterans one story at a time. A local Air Force Veteran holds an Annual Tea and Talk during Women's History Month to highlight female military achievements.
"These ladies were World War I veterans, and they were women. They were called the Hello Girls," said Air Force Veteran Janice Gavern.
Gavern is committed to women's veteran issues.
"The more I tell the message and the more I get out to my sister servicewomen, the more they are inclined to go out and do the same sorts of things," Gavern explained.
